The other day, my wife and I were at a retail store we use to shop. One of the staff said to my wife, “I must lose weight; I’m fat already! Look!” . . .
When we looked, we smiled because she didn’t look like she has put on weight.
I think she just wanted to look slimmer.
On another occasion, I was waiting for someone at an MRT station. I was standing near the fare gates where you tap the MRT card to enter.
I happened to notice a passenger walking sideways, like a crab, pass the fare gate.
I wondered why she did that.
When she passed the gate, I then realised it was because she was obese. (I hope she’s on a weight loss Singapore program)
Overweight and obesity has become a major health concern in Singapore and around the world.
Being overweight is costly because it may increase your risk of diabetes, heart diseases, stroke, etc. And incurrs hefty medical expenses, and lowers your quality of life.
Whether you wish to look slimmer or for health reasons, you should work towards a healthy weight.
If you’re looking for a weight loss Singapore program, a good place to start is to estimate how much body fat you have.
This is done by calculating your Body Mass Index (BMI). The formula is:
Weight (kg) / {Height (m) X Height (m)}
For example, if your weight is 54 kg, and height 1.68 m. So your BMI is 54 / (1.68 x 1.68) = 19.13
The general guide for the BMI readings is as follows:
Less than 18.5 Underweight
18.5 – 24.9 Normal Weight
25 – 29.9 Overweight
30 & above Obese
So the BMI of 19.13 falls under the normal, healthy weight range.
Calculate your BMI so you know your weight range, and how much weight you should lose.
